Not more than 500 milligrams. If you're taking 1,000 milligrams a day, divide it into two doses.
How much is too much?
Up to 2,500 milligrams daily is considered safe. Dr. Robert Heaney, a calcium research scientist at Creighton University in Omaha, thinks 1,500 is the advisable upper limit.
Can Women on hormone therapy take less Calcium?

Which form of calcium is best?
It makes little or no difference. But be sure to read the labels: check the milligrams of “elemental” calcium you're getting per pill, not the amount of calcium gluconate or calcium citrate or whatever it is.

Chewing gum unlike any other delivery form of taking medicine is very casual, easy to take, pleasant taste and breathe freshener. People use it for the FUN of it. When taking medicine is FUN and not a burden or a phobia as it is to most people then certainly we are on a very attractive form of taking medicine.

Children, in most cases refuse to take any medicine.. Chewing gum is the shortest and easiest way for the children to accept calcium intake.

Do calcium supplements contain lead?
Only calcium of natural origin like dolomite and bone meal contain lead. Lead can cause damage to nervous system development in children and result in lower IQ scores. Dolomite has also been found to contain traces of cadmium, uranium, mercury, and arsenic, in addition to lead. These will not harm you in small amounts, but taken regularly in large doses, they could build to toxic levels in your body .
Does phosphorus or Aluminum interfere with calcium absorption?
No. Most foods contain phosphorous, but this should not interfere with calcium absorption. It's okay to take calcium in the form of calcium phosphate. If you use antacids as a usual source of calcium supplementation, avoid those that contain aluminum as an ingredient. Aluminum can interfere with the absorption of calcium during digestion.
What about the oxalates in spinach and other foods?
Oxalate is a substance that binds calcium. In foods high in oxalates (cocoa, soybeans, and spinach), this can decrease absorption of the calcium in those foods (since the oxalates are already bound with the calcium), but not the calcium in other sources consumed at the same meal. The aluminum in some antacids can also decrease calcium absorption. Some kinds of fiber affect absorption-for example, wheat bran may reduce it somewhat. If you eat a wheat bran cereal for breakfast, you might wait and take your supplement at lunch.
Will I get more out of pills I chew or pills I swallow?
Chewables are probably best absorbed. The dissolving process starts in your mouth.
